Western Integrated Electrical builds, installs, maintains, and commissions electrical systems throughout locations across the lower mainland. We complete a variety of electrical installations which can be located at YVR, hospitals, industrial facilities, commercial buildings and in many local municipal facilities. We partner with our clients across the lower mainland to solve their most pressing challenges including design build projects and custom solutions. Distribution and lighting upgrades. Conveyor and machine installations.
We are looking for an experienced Junior/Intermediate Automation Designer/Engineer to join our team of professionals.
What you will be doing:
Automation Systems Design:
- Design Automation Control Systems including P&ID Drawings, Control System Architecture, Control Narratives, Network Layouts, Information Management and Asset Management.
- Develop and program PLC, HMI & Network systems.
- Hardware and electrical design for PLC, VFD and motor control systems.
- Assist with Mechanical and Electrical testing in the shop.
- Manage schedule, scope, budgets and oversee technical members to deliver projects on time and budget.
VFD & Motor Control Centers (MCCs):
- Design and implement automation solutions using VFD’s and MCCs.
- Program VFDs for specific applications and troubleshoot issues to ensure smooth operation.
- Maintain motor starters, VFDs, circuit breakers, and PLC interfaces within MCC to ensure effective motor control, protection, and automation.
Engineering Service:
- Assist with commissioning, configuring and testing of systems on site.
- Demonstrate compliance with safety.
- Perform inspections on existing customer drives and repair when possible.
- Provide support with service calls as needed.
- Provide on-site project management and higher-level commissioning assistance as needed.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) as needed for specific projects.
Business Development:
- Cultivate and manage relationships with key clients and build relationships with new clients.
- Identify new business opportunities in the core market segments we serve.
- Develop relationships from the plant level to the corporate level to maximize our business opportunities within customer accounts.
- Nurture relationships with supplier partners to provide a focused and coordinated strategy to maximize our mutual business opportunities efficiently.
Sales Support:
- Work closely with the sales team to develop innovative solutions to customer needs and assist with the sales process.
- Provide technical leadership and R&D for new customer processes or system designs.
- Assist with the technical development of sales proposals.
- Provide technical sales presentations to customers.
Team and Project Collaborations:
- Project lifecycle support:
- Kick off meeting with sales and production teams.
- Liaison with customers.
- Provide regular updates on project status.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the engineering team.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to create and maintain engineering standards.

Travel:
- Periodic domestic and international travel is required.
- Travel up to 25% of the time to commission and start-up automation systems as well as meet with customers.

What we need from you:
- Electrical Engineer or Electrical/Electronic Technician/Technologist, or equivalent work experience. Eligible for membership in EGBC or ASTTBC.
- Industrial electrical systems design/installations knowledge.
- 6-10 years of engineering experience in industrial automation systems integrations.
- Experience in the forestry, mining, and water-wastewater sectors is highly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge or leading industrial automation technologies (DCS, PLC, Drives, MCCs). Ability to apply knowledge to solve problems and improve customer productivity creatively.
- To understand customers’ critical needs/priorities and present solutions to help our clients be successful in meeting operational KPI goals through automation and electrical solutions.
- Team player, able to multitask, adapt and be innovative in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Interact at all levels within our company, our customers and our suppliers.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational and time management skills.
- Experienced working in or with an automation integrator.
- Drive to succeed, willing to take on new challenges and have a can-do attitude.

- Bonus requirements:
- Good understanding of mechanical systems and instrumentation.
- AutoCAD, SolidWorks and EPLAN drafting systems.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Specific background in Rockwell Automation Systems (PLCs and VFDs).
- Electrical installation and integration with automation systems (turnkey projects).
